What we do in Woodstock
Horsth Plastering covers Woodstock, Vermont from our base in White River Junction. We handle the whole interior surface, insulation in the cavity, board on the studs, plaster or skim coat over it, and the decorative lime finishes on top.
On older houses here that usually means repair work: cracks, water damage, ceilings that have started to sag, and patches from previous owners that never matched. On new construction and additions it means insulation and walls flat enough that a painter can work with them straight away.
The houses in Woodstock
Most of the village is nineteenth century, and behind the paint it is horsehair plaster on split wood lath. That plaster is soft, it is thick, and it is holding trim and moldings nobody can replace. Tearing it out is the fast answer and almost always the wrong one. You lose the profile at the ceiling line, you lose the wall thickness at the casings, and you end up with a room that reads new inside an old house.
So we repair. Loose areas get keyed back to the lath, holes get filled from behind where there is access, and the whole wall gets skimmed over the top. The wall comes back flat, the trim never moves, and the room still looks its age in the way you want it to. Where a ceiling is genuinely gone, usually after a leak, we rebuild that section and match the texture on what is left of it.
